Color Mode Excercise

RGB color mode:

# of colors: 16.7 million

Uncompressed file size: 900kb

This has all three channels active therefore the the file size is bigger.

 Indexed Color Mode:

# of colors: 5

Uncompressed file size: 300kb

The file size is much smaller as its using only 5 colors, out of one channel, instead of the full 16.7 million.

Greyscale Color Mode:

# of colors: 256

Uncompressed file size: 300kb

Since this also only uses one channel its file size is also smaller than the RGB color mode.

Bitmap Color Mode:

# of colors: 2

Uncompressed file size: 37.5kb

This file size is the smallest because Bitmap Color mode only uses two colors, black and white. No other colors.

Crayon Rubbings

Goals of this assignment:

 - The goal of this assignment was to learn about textures and overlapping of elements to create an interesting design. We had to use icons, text, and texture to help us fill a page and solve the problem in a creative way.

New skills that I have learned:

- I have learned about the process behind making a relief piece of art using everyday objects, as well as the thought processes behind it to create something someone else hasn't yet. I also learned about the different textures an object can have and how it looks when it has something else layered on top of it.

Critique:

Crayon Rubbing 1

Crayon rubbing one:

- Out of the two designs I did, I found I didn't quite like this one as much as the other. The background and foreground contrast against each other as it is a cool color vs warm colors. The icons used are the symbols of a Female and a Male. The text written in English says "Auto" and written in Braille are the words "Ladies Restroom" and "Mechanic Room". The Female figure and "Ladies Restroom" are in pink, where as the Male figure and "Mechanic Room" are in magenta. The word "Auto" is in orange and stands out sharply against the elements as it is the darker of the colors used. The blue background makes me feel as if it is clean, the warmer colors simply stating more of an idea. The overall idea I had in mind while making this was simply how we, as humans, are automatically assigned rolls based on our preconceived genders and how sterilized the idea is.

Crayon Rubbing 2

 Crayon rubbing two:

- I prefer this design over the other mostly because I liked the colors used. Orange and yellow give off the feeling of heat, and blue being the subject matter in this situation. Blue can also be associated with the handicap symbol, as signs containing it are blue. In yellow are the words "Lab" repeated over and over again. The sense of repetition give it a slight movement, as if the people in wheelchairs are moving along to the right of the page. The one in the middle is hard to make out, which was from the crayon melting while being used. The texture of the grate gives the piece a mechanical feeling to it. While figuring out the second piece I had to do, I had the idea of making Transformers and giving mechanical advancements to those with disabilities.

Introduction

Introduce yourself:

Hey, I'm Tananda Nail. I like to draw in my spare time and I like to read a webcomic called Homestuck.  I've lived here in Yuma, AZ for about ten years now and overall I enjoy it here.

Add a photo of yourself or some artwork you have created:

What is your major?

My current major is Art: Graphics.

Write about your goals for taking this class:

I hope to improve my skills in this field using what we learn in class.

What university do you plan on continuing your education?

I am not entirely sure what university I want to go to, or if I will continue on to that.

What kind of experience do you have with graphics/design?

I have a bit of experience but not much. It's mostly in just the drawing aspect of things.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Hopefully I'd  be alive in ten years. A job and a nice house would also be nice to have, maybe even have a dog.

Favorite or fantasy vacation spot?

If I had to choose a place for vacation I would pick the beach. It's fun and you can hang out with your friends. It's pretty sweet.
